Welcome to our Christmas 2015 newsletter

Happy Christmas and our very best wishes for 2016, from the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust. Please read on to find out what SSIT has been doing since our last newsletter.  At the moment we are busy reviewing grant applications and making grants; this follows the fantastic success of our charity raceday and lunch at Wincanton Racecourse, and the fundraising efforts of a whole range of supporters and donors over the summer.  Without support like this we would not be able to make the grants that are now being paid to help people across the south and south west - Thank You to everyone who has contributed.

Grace's Party

We have a big Thank You to say to Grace McGowan, who took the opportunity at her Party in November to tell her guests and friends about SSIT and collect donations for the charity.  We met Grace when she took part in the Inter Spinal Unit Games for the victorious Team Salisbury earlier this year - and she has proved again that she is a star, raising more than £1,000!

Powered add-ons
What Are We Funding?

After a busy year of fundraising, SSIT is delighted to be assisting with the purchase of a wide range of equipment for our grant applicants: Lightweight Wheelchairs (top up your Voucher), Adjustable Beds, Handcycles, exercise equipment, a Mobility Scooter, and the very popular powered wheel add-ons and smart drives.  To help you make a good and thorough application to SSIT, we encourage people who are looking for a grant to chat to us first for advice and guidance.  We'd love to hear from you!

Can you help us make more grants?

Have you ever received a grant from SSIT, or know somebody who has?  If so, please think about whether you can help us by raising funds.  All the money we pay out as grants has to come from our hard-earned fundraising, and donations large or small are always welcome.

Now We Are (Nearly) Ten

The Southern Spinal Injuries Trust is nearly Ten Years Old!  Pictured here is Sally Mathieson, trustee and originator of the idea that has grown into the charity we are today.  This lovely photo was the cover picture for our Wincanton Raceday 2015 brochure. We will be planning a range of activities and events to help celebrate our tenth anniversary - if you have memories and thoughts to remind us about, please get in touch! Look out too for more information about a celebratory Reception in Salisbury, likely to be held on 14 April 2016.

Noel and Cheggars - Swap Shop!
Swap Shop

After arranging our first "equipment swap" this year, we are planning to introduce a Swap Shop service on a trial basis, to match up equipment to a new owner when it is no longer needed.  We promise it won't be run by Noel Edmunds and Cheggars (are we showing our age?).  At first, the scheme is likely to be open only to people wanting to pass on their good-quality items that were originally funded by SSIT, but no longer needed.  Nothing needs to be swapped in exchange.  Please look for more details in the coming year, but get in touch if you have a good quality item you would urgently like to re-home.

Contact us if you have a SSIT item to pass on

Two Hampshire Gardens visit
Thoughts of Summer

In these chilly Winter months, we wanted to remind you of the wonderful day enjoyed by guests at our exclusive Hampshire Gardens event, supported by Rosemary Alexander VMM (RHS) - pictured -  and Susan Napier.  Arranged by SSIT trustee Emma Crofton, there was the rare opportunity to visit Sandhill Farmhouse and Kimpton House garden on a lovely June day, with lunch included.  Generous visitors and donors raised more than £6,000 for SSIT's equipment fund.
