Welcome to our Spring 2015 newsletter

Thank you to everyone who has given their support to SSIT since our last newsletter.  It was wonderful to hear from old friends and new at Christmas, and we are very grateful for the donations you sent.  These are much needed as we started 2015 with a growing waiting list of applications for assistance to purchase specialist equipment; having the right kit can make fundamental changes and improvements to lives, and this is what continues to drive and inspire us at SSIT.  The ways you have helped us have been many and various - from the wonderful Samba Buskers, to New Year's Day swimmers, grants from charitable funds, expeditions and challenges.  Read on to learn more about what we have been doing, and how you can help. Thank you for supporting the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust.

Bodytech Salisbury - helping SSIT
All About Cars

It doesn't have to be vintage - but do you know of a small, non-running car that SSIT and partner Bodytech Garage can transform into a static vehicle for SCI patients to use for practising the transfer from car to wheelchair? Bodytech also hold their annual Classic Car Brunch on 28 March 2015 in aid of SSIT.  We are really grateful for the support of Andy Downes and his team.

Sporting marksman Stu Wright
GB Colours for Stu Wright

Fantastic achievement by Stu Wright, who earned his sports shooting GB Colours when he shot a Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS) during an official match.  Stu's personal best on the day also won him fifth place in the Prone competition.  SSIT is honoured to have played a part in Stu's success by assisting him with the purchase of competition equipment.

The title of the new film soon to be released by Glory Film Co, and freely available online from 17 March.  The producer, Marcus Dillistone, also released "Choosing a Wheelchair" in partnership with SSIT. We are very grateful to Marcus for his generous donation to SSIT of segment sponsorship in this new, highly informative film.

Individual grant awards

After making many grant awards in 2014, we have many more on our waiting list - due to this high demand, we expect that waiting times for applicants will be longer this year.  Please help us to generate the donations, grants and support we need to keep helping people with spinal cord injury. Pictured here is Joanna Birley and her specialist basketball wheelchair - applications in waiting at the moment include adjustable profiling beds, lightweight chairs, powered wheels and adapted exercise equipment.
