Our SSIT Charity Raceday and Lunch at Wincanton Racecourse was held on Sunday 25 October 2015 with wonderful autumn weather. Guests and racegoers were treated to the unique spectacle of 11 side saddle riders racing on the flat in traditional side saddle attire, with cap silks provided by generous owners who supported our day with donations. After the race, the ladies donned their top hats and were presented with posies from Sprout & Flower florists. Our sincere thanks to Martin and Philippa Clunes, who also presented winner Lizzie Harris with a cup donated by The Field magazine, and prizes for second and third place were donated by The Vintage Tack Room (side saddle whip) and Longman’s Cheese. The charity then hosted over 480 guests for lunch and afternoon tea in Wincanton’s marvellous Pavilion Marquee, and a full day of Wincanton’s classic countryside national hunt racing. The Southern Spinal Injuries Trust is delighted to have raised £40K to support people with spinal cord injuries, and offers grateful thanks to guests, riders, racegoers and sponsors who helped make the day such a great success.
