People with spinal cord injury are encouraged to apply to SSIT for help.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: we are now accepting new applications for grant assistance.  Please note that we are reviewing our application form and may ask you for further information after you submitted your application to us.  Please make sure your contact details are clear and up to date so that we can get in touch with you.  We look forward to receiving your application.

We try to help as many people as we can, using the funds we have available.  Sometimes our funds are lower when we have received lots of applications.  We always try to prioritise the applications that demonstrate the greatest level of need, but we have to balance this with affordability.  Please try to keep the amount of grant you ask for, as low as possible.  You can do this by making a realistic assessment of the amount you can afford to contribute, making sure you have asked your supplier about the possibility of any discounts, and by making sure you have investigated other sources of funding too.  The grants we make are usually in the range £250 to £3,000, and with lower grants usually approved more quickly.

Building Adaptations:  It is not our policy to support building adaptations.  This is because these projects are often expensive, which means we can help fewer people.  Building works can also be subject to planning permission or building inspection delays and difficulties, which we do not have the resources to assist with.  If needs change, or a grant recipient moves house, the benefit of the grant is likely to be lost.

See our Frequently Asked Questions for lots more guidance about grants from SSIT.

The Southern Spinal Injuries Trust gets its funds from charitable donations, fundraising events, sponsored activities and grants.  Please help us to carry on making grant awards to people with spinal cord injury, by supporting us with donations and fundraising if you can – we are always very grateful for this.

If you live in one of these counties OR receive/have received services as a patient of the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre at Salisbury District Hospital, you may be eligible to apply for a grant from us (see also Map below).  Eligible counties are:  Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, West Sussex, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands.  If you are not sure whether you are eligible, please contact Paul (see below) to discuss.
